A Caged Bird is Still a Bird

Little bird in a locked cage

Has the song you sing changed in any way?

As the colors in your world slowly fade away

Through bars you can climb without touching the sky

Little bird who once traveled the world

If you were set free, what would you do?

Where would you go without your restraints?

Would you take me there too so I can learn to sing?

Little bird with feathers of beautiful hue

Do you feel the pain that clipped wings leave behind?

Does it hurt to know you’ve lost the ability to fly?

An unjust prisoner with no place to hide

But the cage can only work when it keeps you restrained

You remember who you are when you stretch out your wings

Sing your songs as you wait patiently

Knowing one day you’ll touch the sky again.
